Bowen will continue moving with the light. Bowen now has a charge line on the creatures, and the barbarian charges the injured enemy, but his axe slides off the creature’s armor (4 rolled),

Newt advances and fires at the other attacker (rolls a 12) but the target moves just before the bolt connects.
The first creature steps back 5 feet, drops its crossbow, and draws a small short sword. Bowen feels his mind cloud over for a split second and then shakes it off (14 rolled for a Will save). The creature lets fly with a string of curses in common and says to the other, “You try!”
The other creature mimics the actions of the first. Again Bowen shakes the cobwebs from his head (another 14 rolled for a Will save.)
Mischa, Bec, Casimir, Bowen, and Newt may now act.

Bowen will continue pursuing and attacking the kobolds.

Bowen will continue pursuing and attacking the kobolds. Just a point of clarification; these creatures are definitely not kobolds. They are small, stocky dwarf-like creatures with pale blue-white skin and bulbous eyes with no irises or pupils. Their hair is coarse and white and long mustaches droop past their chins.

Since Casimir can't help Anya now, he rises and rushes to the combat as fast as he can move.

(posted on behalf of Mischa) Seeing Casimir struggling in what is shadows for Mischa and darkness for the paladin, the druid elects to stay where she is. She calls to Scar and commands him to attack. She then takes a pinch of sand from her pouch and gestures as she intones some arcane words.
Scar hustles from around the corner.
(auto-posted for Bec) Bec hustles forward and drops the glowing staff, taking a two-handed grip on his greatsword. Casimir retrieves his sword and begins making his way back towards the light.
Bowen steps forward an attacks again, hitting the second creature (15 rolled) for 8 points of damage, clobbering his target.
Newt has no line of fire so attempts to send a magic missile at Bowen’s target. Unfortunately, his chain shirt gets in the way of the somatic component and the spell is ruined. The gnome advances.
The clobbered derro takes a 5’ step back, touches his armor, and shadows suddenly spill forth from around him.
The other derro stabs at Bowen and misses.
Mischa completes her spell and that same derro falls to the ground, snoring.
Scar advances and attacks the second creature, (11 rolled) but fails to penetrate its natural armor.
Bec steps over the sleeping derro and attacks (rolls a 10) but misses due to the shadows (16 rolled.)
Casimir hustles forward and finds himself in shadowy illumination.
Bowen finds himself stuck behind Scar and Bec, unless he wishes to provoke an attack of opportunity.
What would Bowen like to do? (Anyone else may post changes to their tactics/ actions also.)

Bowen's not too picky, but I've been thinking of them as mutant kobolds this whole time!
Seeing himself trapped behinf the others, Bowen will attempt to pick up the staff in his shield hand. It might be usefull should the second creature flee again.

Bec will take a 5' step east to put himself just due south of D2 and take a swing at him with his greatsword.

Bowen picks up the staff.
Newt holds his action.
The creature withdraws into the dartkness, although Newt and Mischa can still see him in the shadows.
Newt unholds and successfully casts a magic missile at the retreating creature, dealing 5 points of damage to it and bringing it down.
We can drop out of initiative.
You have 1 creature down and 1 sleeping. Anya’drea is dead, ascertained by Mischa. Bec, Bowen, Casimir and Mischa will each earn 300 XP.
What do you do?

Did the creatures speak at all during the encounter? Yes. At one point, the first creature stepped back 5 feet, dropped its crossbow, and drew a small short sword. Bowen felt his mind cloud over for a split second and then shook it off (14 rolled for a Will save). The creature let fly with a string of curses in common and said to the other, “You try!”

"Let's check these vermin for any clue as to what is going on here. Then let's tend to Anya'drea, as she is gone from this realm. We should do what we can to see that she is at peace in death as vital as she was in life."

Mischa reminds you that one of the creatures only sleeps and will wake before you can finish searching them.

Bec paces about sullenly, his youthful face unused to the death of an ally despite all the recent danger they had recently experienced. When Mischa refers to the unconscious dwarf, Bec eyes the derro grimly.
"Can any of you talk to this thing? Not that I imagine it could tell us something we don't already know. We should just send it to the Abyss and be done with it."
