I have always been under the impression that the DM rolls the miss chance. In re-reading certain rules, the phrasing seems to indicate the players should do this. My reasoning was always "you miss, but your not sure why - too hard to hit, darkness, etc." In thinking about it, I guess it makes sense that you WOULD know why you miss (you ding off the armor, you swung too high, you could have sworn the tentacled cat was right there but your blade does not bite.) So I'm inclined to change my mind (I apologize if other(s) tried to impress this upon me in the past.

Now I have an opinion: In the case of a foe that you are not 100% sure is there = Dm role. In the case of somethign you can see (displacer beats, creature in shadows) player roles.

As he said. For invisibilty, DM rolls. For shadows, blurring, et'c, the player. That'd accurately reflect the amount of information the character's getting.
