Hi All,
I just got this game so I could start my kids on RPGs early. So far, I have good things to say about it.
It's a really simple system - tri-stat Body, Mind, and Spirit. Contests, challenges, and duels are resolved using a pool of d6 equal to your stat + modifiers. Even rolls are successes.
Players have no HP, but get markers (I used glass beads) representing Essence. In a duel (kid friendly combat) you lose one Essence if you take a hit. Essence can also be used to buy extra d6 to add to your dice pool on any roll. Reaching zero Essence puts the PC into a magical sleep, GM determines how long the sleep lasts. As players spend Essence to enhance rolls and take hits depleting Essence, they are replenished by the GM, who can award Essence for good moral choices, perseverance, attitude, whatever.
Lots of opportunity to fudge stuff, GM has tons of control to keep the game fun.
Anyway, I narrated one adventure for my older children (5 and 7) and it was a fantastic night around the dinner table. They ask me every day to play more and we now have an official "game and pizza" date on Friday nights.
Wanted to pass it on in case anyone has small children and is looking for an age-appropriate way to start them on RPGs. It was a wonderful evening and a great way to let them be kids while enjoying them.
Best Regards,
Malagate
