Hoarfrost brushes himself off and dons his cloak once more. "Thank you my friends." He looks around and calmly breathes deeply through his nose. (Uses his Enhanced Sense of Smell).

Hoarfrost brushes himself off and dons his cloak once more. "Thank you my friends." He looks around and calmly breathes deeply through his nose. (Uses his Enhanced Sense of Smell). Hoarfrost smells nothing but late afternoon air. You continue on. Again, about an hour passes when, out of thin air, a large flying snake appears before the party. It circles you out of melee range and says in the Vulgate, “I warn you not to go further.” It says nothing else, regardless of what you do or say. What do you do?

"Well, we must, warnings or no. Let us press on, though be on guard, now that we have been warned whatever has thus far been causing mere inconveniences may take a more hostile approach."

The creature says, “Very well. Then suffer the curse of Kuthrad Ondal.” The creature disappears.
You press on and, just before you reach the tower you notice and odor coming from your packs. Upon checking you realize that all your food has rotted.

Othrik strokes his beard thoughtfully and looks over the food. "I may be able to salvage our stores, don't toss 'em out."
"I'll need rest, though, and time for prayer."

As it is almost dark and you are almost at the tower, I assume you continue the remaining short distance to it.
The ruins are a jagged and stark white series of crumbling walls and abutments in the center of which remains a tall thin tower stretching some fifty feet into the sky. A blue light glows from the center of the tower remains. Nothing remains in the center of the tower save for crumbling stones and bones. The blue light originates from the few remaining flagstones at the center of the tower.
Curled up on those flagstones is a large, feather-winged lion, complete with thick, dark, mane, but with a human-like face upon which it sports a great, braided beard. The creature appears to be asleep.

"Well this is certainly not the cut-throat Gnoll we seek..." Sha-Gra whispers to the other party members. "Have any of you ever encountered such a strange beast before? I fear whether we have the power to take it, should it mean us harm. Yet the mysterious glow from the tower intriques me to say the least."

"Gnoll warrior it definately not my friend Sha-Gra. But what it is I am not sure." Hoarfrost scratches his head " I am not sure of anything in this strange country."

"Well theres no way to know what will happen unless we see. Lets go see if he can talk to us. If we have to fight we'll take it from there, but I refuse to believe that everything in this world is going to try to kill us."
Loreli makes her way over till she is within 10 feet or so of the creature.
"Excuse me, Sir."

Sha-gra follows Loreli... thinking this woman is going to get me killed!
"Are you sure this is such a wise thing to do my lady?"
Watching her march off, he realizes its a little too late for negotiation!

Othrik follows the others, standing back several paces. Uneasy about the creature, he casts Detect Evil.

"Excuse me, Sir." The beast stands swiftly and stretches; a very impressive sight. “Ahh,” it says in a deep voice, speaking Vulgate, “You are polite. Excellent. It has been long since I had anyone to speak with. And you,” he bows his head toward Maedhros, “part Elf! Very fitting. Well an elf would have been more fitting but, still. Fitting. Now, what brings you to this Tower of Hithel?”

Maedhros returns the bow, "We have come seeking a petty gnoll warlord who terrorizes a village near here. The townsfolk desire to be free of his reign and have hired us to do this for them. When we heard about the tower near the village, it seemed like a likely hiding spot for this warlord we seek."

"We, sir, are looking for some gnolls who have been terrorizing a nearby village. We were hoping you might be able to point us in the right direction."
Loreli pauses. "I'm so sorry how very rude of me, I am Loreli." She say s this with a bow, "and this is Hoarfrost, Othrik, Sha-Gra, Maedhros." She motions to each as she introduces them.
