UO for Free????!!!!

Yes Ladies and Gentlemen, it's true UO, one of the true Grandfathers of MMO's is now available to download and play for free. And not the new completely overdone and worked to death version, but the fun simple skill based version of our youth.

Chris & I both play and have our own accounts, as do a few of our friends. If you are interested in checking it out it will run on pretty much ANYTHING! Technically the newer cell phones could run it. The graphics aren't super fancy, but the world is expansive, there are no loading times to get from area to area, and there are no levels to grind through, it's all skill based.

There is also a good third party macro program you can install if you like, these programs are legal on the server, though I have not had a chance to play around with it yet, called razor which is here:

The server we play on is UO Gamers:Hybrid this is the old school server and as is is run on a private server there is no cost whatsoever.

So if your interested install it, give it a shot, you've got nothing to loose but a little time, or alot if you like it.

I should also add that as the game is skill based there is nothing that locks you into any path, you can change your character ideas as often as you want, tired of being a GM swordsmen, heck give magic a try, tired of throwing fireballs, pick up those lock-picks and start robbing the rich.

Thanks so much to Mike and Sara (Palandar and, err, Sara) for turning us on to this again, and hooking us up with mad loot. This is the MMORPG I cut my drunken little chain-smoking teeth on this one when I was oh-so-much-younger. It's good to re-visit some things. This is one of them. The other stuff not so much.
And for someone like me, who has too much he wants to do and not enough time in which to do it, a fun game without the pressure of a monthly fee is a welcome change.

Oh no worries at all! We have more stuff for you guys. A bit of armor and I think a few weapons. Har har.

The other good thing about this server is that the skill gain is alot quicker then original UO. So you don't have to spend a year to GM a character.

no kidding skill gain is insane, which is great for a freak like me who would spend a year gm'ing swords just to say hey lets go mage for a bit, and spend two years gm'ing that

The problem with UO now is that skill gains are patheticly easy. Oh, and Elves. But still, if the shard you folks are playing on has a FASTER skill gain system than OSI's using now... that is a scary thought.

I've stopped playing UO over the last 6 months, but I throw on the old UO single player demo from time to time just for kicks

Oh, and be careful with Razor, not only is it deemed illegal on OSI servers, but most crafty GMs on the freebies will ban you for it as well. EasyUO is a safer bet, if you are into that kind of thing.

Razor is allowed on this server in fact their main page has the directions for the settings you need and walks you through using it.

And there are no elves on this server this is old school UO, like it was for Second Age. And skill gains are pretty fast, but the hard ones still seem to take forever, you know the ones, blacksmithing, magery, the pain in the butt ones.

Well, if you tweak Razor you can automate both skills to run while you leave the comp alone. Takes all the fun out, but it's now common practice on the OSI servers. You can even set it up to run full quests for you, if you wanted.

A warning, though: Once you start cheating, you'll just cheat and cheat and cheat. Unless you are trying to farm gold to sell on ebay....

Razor is good for gaining blacksmithing and other repetative skills. There is no point to constant clicking when Razor can do it for you.

That said, there is no point to even being in the same room as the computer when Razor can do it for you
