Includes Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast, Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn and Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal
Baldur's Gate is a computer role-playing game (CRPG) developed by BioWare and released in 1998 by Interplay Entertainment. The game takes place in the Forgotten Realms, a high fantasy campaign setting, using modified Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (AD&D) 2nd edition rules. The game received critical praise, and was credited, along with Diablo, with revitalizing the CRPG genre.
The story follows the player character's journey along the Sword Coast, which lies on the west coast of the continent Faerûn, as he or she grows up following the cataclysmic Time of Troubles. Character development occurs through dialogue and battle. The game rewards the player character according to his or her moral choices.
Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast is a computer role-playing game in a high fantasy setting, developed by BioWare and published by Interplay in April 1999. Released as an expansion pack for Baldur's Gate from 1998, it adds about 20-30 hours of extra gameplay to the original game. Tales of the Sword Coast adds four optional areas to Baldur's Gate, but does not directly impact the original storyline.
Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn is the award-winning sequel to "Baldur’s Gate" and its expansion "Baldur’s Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast". In it, the protagonist continues to struggle with his or her dark heritage as a Bhaalspawn in the popular D&D world: Forgotten Realms. The events in this story take place mere months after the defeat of Seravok and is written to flow naturally forward with its many reappearing characters and renewed story arcs.
The game utilizes and expounds upon much of the content in the original, featuring more character classes and higher levels while maintaining its play style and party system. The game is built around the 2nd edition Advanced Dungeons and Dragons role-playing system.
Throne of Bhaal is the last chapter of the Baldur's Gate saga. After the defeat of Irenicus, the player's quest continues as war erupts all over Faerun. The remaining Bhaalspawn have gathered armies and seek to destroy each other, leaving a trail of carnage and destruction in their path. Will the prophecies of the Wise Alaundo come true and a new God of Murder ascend ?
The game picks up right after the end of Shadows of Amn. In addition to the last chapters of the Bhaalspawn saga, it adds a huge new dungeon, Watcher's Keep, new characters and quests, a new character class (the Wild Mage, a wizard using entropy to cast spells with variable results), new items and spells and raises the experience cap to 8 millions (allowing single-class characters to reach 40th level and learn new high-powered abilities).
